Legend of Sphatika Linga at VyasaRaja Matha (Sosale)

The Sphatika Linga (crystal Linga) at Sri Vyasaraja Matha (Sosale) is a historic artifact of significant spiritual and theological importance in the Madhva tradition.

The Linga was originally the personal worship idol of Basava Bhatta, a renowned Veerashaiva scholar. After losing an intense 21-day philosophical debate (Vaakyartha) in to Sri Vyasaraja Tirtha, Basava Bhatta was so moved by the saint's humility and knowledge that he surrendered his cherished Sphatika Linga and an Emerald Ganapati to him. Sri Vyasaraja accepted the Linga, and it has since been preserved as a "trophy" of the victory of Tattvavada (Madhva philosophy) over other schools.

Special Pooja worship is offered to this Linga once a year on Maha Shivaratri. The Linga is part of the Samasthana Prathimas of the Sri Vyasaraja Matha (Sosale). naham karta harih karta
