ARDHAGIRI SRI VEERAANJANEYA SWAMY ( Lord Hanuman carrying Sanjeevani Parvatha ) The legend behind the origin of this Kshethra dates back to the Epic days of Ramayana in Thretha Yuga during the war between Lord Sri Rama and Ravanasura. During the course of the Epic war Lakshmana, brother of Lord Sri Rama fell unconscious along with others while fighting with Indrajit, son of Ravanasura. In order to revive him back some rare and celestial herbs were required to be brought from the Himalayan range. Lord Hanuman goes to Himalayas in fetch of the herbs and reaches the mountain where the rare herbs exist, but could not locate them as they were invisible. Rare Temples of Lord Hanuman (Honnalli – Bellary) Most of us would have heard of King Janamejaya in the lineage of Pandavas who was the great grand son of Arjuna the hero of Mahabharatha fame. Janamejaya’s father Pareekshit (son of Abhimanyu) died of a snake bite due to the curse of a Divine Seer. In order to take revenge for his father’s death Janamejaya conducts a great Sarpa Yaga where many snakes died including the innocent one. Later it is said that on the advice of Divine Seers in order to get rid of the dosha of killing innocent snakes, Janamejaya goes on a pilgrimage and installed the idols of several Deities. In the process it is said that he had also visited the present area of Bellary district and installed idols of Lord Hanuman.
