Mantralaya Sri Raghavendra Swamy (Rayaru) in Moorthi form

Image
Generally we don't come across Sri Raaghavendra Swamy depicted and worshiped as a Moorthi (idol).  It will be in the form of a Brindavana along with the idol of Sri Prahlada Raayaru.  But here I have come across a rare form of Sri Raayaru being worshipped at Nanjanagudu Sri Raaghavendra Swamy mutt in the form of an idol; installed by Sri Sujnaanendra Theertharu of Sri Raaghavendra Swamy Mutt. Depicted below is the picture of Sri Raayaru in the Moorthi (idol) form received through mail courtesy www.srsmutt.org. Also please find below a link for a brief write-up about the legend behind the idol and its consecration.

SRAAVANA MAASAM - The sacred month

Image
The month in which full moon day coincides with or comes nearer to Sravana star that month is denoted as Sraavana Masam. Sravana star is considered as Sri Hari (Vishnu) Nakshathra. While Moon is the star lord, Sri Maha Vishnu is the star Deity of Sravana nakshathra. It is said that Lord Brahma had darshan of Lord Vishnu for the first time at the beginning of the creation in Sravana constellation.  Sri Vaamana avathara of Lord Vishnu had taken place in the constellation of Sravana. It is said and believed that Lord Vishnu (Lord Srinivasa) stepped His foot on Tirumala hills in search of his consort Goddess Lakshmi in Sravana constellation. At Tirumala temple the nine day festival Brahmotsavam concludes every year invariably on the day coinciding with Sravana Star.   Astrologically Sravana star is regarded as an auspicious star which falls in the zodiac sign of Makara Raasi (Capricorn) ruled by Saturn. It is said that when Sun during his transit in Makara Raasi comes...
