Image
Symptoms of Kaliyuga -  Prophecies about dark times... (from Sri Bhagavatha Purana as narrated by Sage Sukha) TIME (Kaala) is subdivided into units of smaller duration called Yuga. As per Kalpa pramana, Yuga is classified into four types’ viz. Krutha Yuga; Tretha Yuga; Dwapara Yuga and Kali Yuga of descending duration in the ratio of 4:3:2:1 with each Yuga having the duration shorter than its previous one. Duration of these four Yugas in terms of human years is determined as follows… Krutha Yuga (1728000 years); Tretha Yuga (1296000 years); Dwapara Yuga (864000 years) and Kali Yuga (432000 years); Yugas (Krutha; Tretha; Dwapara and Kali) are associated with Dharma or moral virtues (morality). Essence of worship - Pathram - Pushpam - Phalam - Thoyam...

Stressing on the significance for sincerity, purity of mind and devotion in worship, Lord Sri Krishna says in Bhagawadgeeta (9th canto sloka # 26) Patram pushpam phalam toyam yo me bhaktya prayacchati tad aham bhakty-upahritam ashnami prayatatmanah That means whoever offers Me with devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water, that I accept, offered with pure-mind and devotion. In these Houses-of-God, it is not intricacies of their design, elaborateness of the ritual, nor the splendour of gold and wealth exhibited, nor even the number of devotees attending, that contribute to their essential success. Ultimately it is the sincerity and devotion (bhakti) that counts in divine worship. The very language and diction of the above stanza clearly sound the note that the material objects that one might offer are of no value to the Lord of the Universe, but it is the devotion and love that prompt the offerings that are accepted by the Deity. Be it "a leaf, a flower, a fruit, ...

Sri Hanumad Vratha - Significance

Image
Dedicated to Lord Hanuman, sukla Trayodasi (13th day) during the sacred lunar month Margasira masam is reckoned as   Hanumad Vrata . This we find being observed mostly in South especially in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh states.     According to the legend behind it is said that, it was due to Arjuna’s overlooking (neglect) Lord Hanuman’s significance [who was sitting in the form of a flag (emblem) on his chariot]. Pandavas had to struggle for 13 years (12+1) in forests during exile. Perhaps this may be the significance behind worshipping Lord Hanuman on this day with a yellow coloured thread having 13 knots known as Thora and worn by devotees after the pooja.   On the advice of Lord Vedavyasa who had narrated the significance of this vratha to Dharmaraja, Draupadi Devi performed this Vratha under the guidance of Lord Sri Krishna.  It is believed that Lord Sri Rama Himself had performed this Vratha. On this day, Lord Hanuman is exclusively worsh...

RELIGION Vs SPIRITUALITY - View Point

Image
Religion Vs Spirituality -  Point of view... The terms   religion   and   spirituality   are often confusing; disputed but still cannot be differentiated. Both go together; complement each other; cannot be separated. Historically, the words   religious   and   spiritual   have been synonymously used to describe the various aspects of the concept of religion. Both religion and spirituality can involve belief in a deity, spiritual or mystical experiences, rituals, as well as value systems and beliefs, about morality and ethics and an understanding of how the world works. These things are not necessarily be religious or spiritual, they can be both. Spirituality   is essence and philosophy of the   religion .   Religion   is rather an extension of   spirituality ; it is a part and parcel of   spirituality .  Religion is philosophy in action. Reli gion is a medium through which   spirituality ...
