He was born as the 8 th child (Ashtama Santhaana) to his parents Devaki Devi and Vasudeva; as the 8 th incarnation (Avathara) of Lord Sri Maha Vishnu among the Dasaavatharas; born on the 8 th lunar day, Ashtami; and had eight prime consorts known as Ashta Mahishis.
