Jeevana Krama (way of life...)

Image
Jeevana-krama: The Way of Life In this depiction of human existence: The Elephant represents Past Karma (or the inevitability of death) relentlessly pursuing us. The Man clinging to the branch represents our Present Life, suspended in a fragile state. The Snakes in the abyss below represent Death (or the four base passions) waiting to consume us. The White and Black Rats gnawing at the branch represent Day and Night, the passage of time that slowly eats away at our lifespan. The Honeycomb represents the fleeting Material Pleasures of the world. The Supreme Lord Vishnu extends His hand, offering a way out of the miserable cycle of birth and death. The Irony: Though surrounded by peril, the man is so engrossed in craving a few drops of honey—the temporary sensory pleasures—that he fails to notice the extended hand of the Divine. This is the tragic paradox of the human condition. naham karta harih karta

Legend of Sphatika Linga at VyasaRaja Matha (Sosale)

Image
The Sphatika Linga (crystal Linga) at Sri Vyasaraja Matha (Sosale) is a historic artifact of significant spiritual and theological importance in the Madhva tradition. The Linga was originally the personal worship idol of Basava Bhatta, a renowned Veerashaiva scholar. After losing an intense 21-day philosophical debate (Vaakyartha) in to Sri Vyasaraja Tirtha, Basava Bhatta was so moved by the saint's humility and knowledge that he surrendered his cherished Sphatika Linga and an Emerald Ganapati to him. Sri Vyasaraja accepted the Linga, and it has since been preserved as a "trophy" of the victory of Tattvavada (Madhva philosophy) over other schools. Special Pooja worship is offered to this Linga once a year on Maha Shivaratri. The Linga is part of the Samasthana Prathimas of the Sri Vyasaraja Matha (Sosale). naham karta harih karta

BILVA - THE SACRED BAEL (Significance & Merits)

Image
Eka Bilvam ShivaArpanam There is nothing that one can ignore in this nature because it is all pervaded by the supreme God.  Each element of nature whether it is men or animals or plants/trees, hills or rivers etc. depends on each other and one cannot survive without the other. They complement each other for their survival and existence.  So much so, plants and trees are an integral part of human or animal life and without plants/trees a man or an animal cannot survive. Each part of the plant like roots, stems, bark, leaves and flowers are used in Hindu rituals. Apart from spiritual significance there is also an element of health consciousness and environmental protection involved in its usage. Even today these leaves/herbs are very much used in preparing Ayurvedic medicines used for curing several diseases. Apart from this they also act as a Divine way of controlling pollution, be it water or air.      In Hinduism, plants/trees are worshiped and are tre...

mahanNindA varjanam - the avoidance of insulting great souls

Image
mahanNindA varjanam The episode of Daksha Yagna serves as a profound cautionary tale regarding mahanNindA varjanam (the avoidance of insulting great souls), illustrating that the presence of the Divine is inseparable from the respect shown to His devotees. Key Lessons from Daksha’s GarvaBhanga ... Consequences of Insulting Great Souls: Daksha’s arrogance led him to exclude and insult Sri Rudra Devaru, who is recognized in the Madhva tradition as a parama bhagavatottama and Vaishnavottama. This act of mahanNindA (offense against a great soul) resulted in the total destruction of his ritual and his own decapitation by Veerabhadra. Absence of Bhagawan Vishnu: Although Daksha was a staunch devotee of Vishnu, the Lord did not manifest His sannidya (presence) to protect or validate a sacrifice where a superior devotee like Shiva was intentionally disrespected. Vishnu later explicitly told Daksha that without honoring Shiva, no auspicious action can succeed. Taratamya and Realizatio...
