Namakkal Aanjaneya Swamy - A rare temple of Lord Hanuman
As per legends it is believed that Lord Hanuman on his way
back from Himalayas after replacing the Sanjeevani Parvatha had brought along
with him a Salagrama found in Gandaki River. While on his journey through air
Lord Hanuman had to stop over at this spot to perform his nithya karma
(Sandhyavandana) as it was Sandhya samaya. Since he was carrying the Salagrama,
he kept it on the ground near a lake and proceeded to complete his nithya karma. On return he tried to pick up the Salagrama
but could not do so as it got fixed to the ground and in front of his eyes it
grew into a huge rock. Perplexed, Lord Hanuman heard a voice of Lord Narasimha
that He got manifested on the rock brought by him.
Viswaroopa
darshana of Lord Hanuman with folded hands worshiping Lord Lakshmi Narasimha in
open terrace without any roof is rarity at this temple. The eyes of Aanjaneya (Lord Hanuman) is in straight line
with the lotus feet of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha on top of the hill called
Namagiri which is believed to be a Salagrama Shila brought by Lord Hanuman. The
gigantic 18 ft. life size idol of Lord Hanuman carved
out of a single stone is believed to be growing in size.
Lord Narasimha is the main deity of the temple atop the hill. Here Lord Narasimha is depicted in a sitting
position accompanied by Lord Brahma; Rudra, Surya, Chandra and Sages Sanaka,
Sananda. Because of the presence of all
the Trinal lords (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva) this place is also known as
Thrimoorthi Sthala.
This rare temple of Lord Hanuman is located in a place called
Namakkal in Tamil Nadu state. Nearest
major town is Karur (43 km); Erode (50 km); Salem (56 km); Trichy (85 km).
Believed to be in existence since the days of epic Ramayana
in Tretha Yuga, sanctified by the visit (stop over) of Lord Hanuman and manifestation
of Lord Narasimha emerged out from a Salagrama brought by Lord Hanuman the
temple of Sri Aanjaneya Swamy at Namakkal is attracting thousands of devotees
from across the country.

Namaskara,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the article on Namakkal. Goddess Lakshmi in this place is known by the name Namagiri Lakshmi and history says that Srinivasa Ramanujam, the great mathematician was born with the blessings of Shri Namagiri Lakshmi Nrisimha. It was said that only due to the blessings of Goddess Namagiri Ramanujam was able to solve complex mathematical problems without any formal training and education.
Narayana
