In Bhagavat Geeta, Chapter # 2 (Sloka 62 & 63) Lord Sri Krishna says that, “when a man thinks of objects, attachment for them arises, from attachment desire is born, from desire arises anger, from anger comes delusion, from delusion loss of memory, from loss of memory the destruction of discrimination and from destruction of discrimination man perishes”.

Kaama (lust, craze, desire), Krodha (anger, hatred), Lobha (greed, miserliness, narrow minded), Moha (delusory emotional attachment), Mada or Ahankara (pride, stubborn mindedness), Matsarya (envy, jealousy, show or vanity, and pride) are the six internal enemies of man kind known as Arishadvargas (Negative passions). Ari means enemy. They are responsible for all kinds of difficult experiences in our lives. These negative characters prevent mankind from realizing the ultimate reality. When these negative passions overrule, egoism gets manifested which is the biggest enemy of humans. A man with egoism becomes self centred and ignorant of his surroundings.

In the legend of Narasimha Avathara, Hiranyakasipa is depicted as the personification of obsessive human ego. He was ignorant of the supremacy and omnipresence of the Lord Sri Maha Vishnu and ultimately gets perished at the hands of the Supreme Lord in the form of Naarasimha. The lesson what one has to learn from this legend is that if one does not limit or control his ego he may have to pay a big penalty in life. The remedy being, total surrender to Lord Naarasimha, who helps one to overcome the weakness of ignorance and also protects his devotees from internal as well as external enemies.

Lord Naarasimha is one of the very powerful, rare and precious avatharas of Lord Sri Maha Vishnu and He is depicted as a great protector at the time of need. It was an instant avathara, known as Aavesaavathara (no prior preparations were made) where, the Lord Naarasimha appeared in a very ferocious and fascinating form. He is the God of Gods. He is Mrithyu for the Mrithyu, the one who eliminates the death cycles.

Vaisakha sukla Chaturdasi, the 14th day of the bright fortnight in the Hindu Lunar calendar is celebrated as Sri Nrusimha Jayanthi. It was on this day the Lord Sri Maha Vishnu got manifested as Naarasimha in the constellation of Swathi star to protect his devotee, Bhaktha Prahlada. Worshipping Lord Sri Lakshmi Naarasimha on this day is highly meritorious.
