Kunjarugiri Durga Devi (Pajaka Kshethra)

Popularly known as Durgabetta and Vimanagiri; this famous Durga temple is within the vicinity of the holy Pajaka kshethra the birth place of Sri Madhvacharya the founder exponent of Dwaita/Tattvavada philosophy.

It is about 10 km from Udupi Ksethra. The temple is located on a hill which looks like an elephant (Kunjara) hence the name Kunjarugiri.

It is an ancient temple where Goddess Durga in Chaturbhuja (four armed) was installed by none other than Lord Parashurama the dynamic incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Sri Madhvacharya used to visit this temple daily during his childhood. 

Transcendental magnificence and grace of Durgadevi is reflected in the idol at Kunjarugiri temple with the Goddess holding Shanka (conch) and Chakra (discus) in the upper hands and Dhanus (bow) and Trishula (trident) in the lower hands.

Association with Lord Parashurama and Jagadguru Sri Madhvacharya adds prominence to this place Kunjarugiri a popular Durga Kshethra to be visited especially by Madhwa fraternity.
