Jupiter's transit into Leo (Guru Simha Sankramana) - Effect on individuals - An outlook

देवानां ऋषीणां गुरुं काचंन सन्निभम्
बुद्धिभूतं त्रिलोकेशं तं नमामि बृहस्पतिम्

Jupiter’s transit in the zodiac is the most sought after one as it bring out marked influence on individuals. Jupiter known as Guru Graha otherwise called Bruhaspathi is the most benevolent and benefic among the planets. Considered as Deva Guru (divine preceptor) in Hindu philosophy, Jupiter’s blessings (Guru Bala) are very much essential for an individual and His transit into certain positions in Gochaara is most awaited for performing of auspicious ceremonies like marriage; upanayana etc. Even while fixing of muhurtha for auspicious ceremonies it is ensured that Jupiter (Guru) is in proper placement either by presence or by aspect in the muhurtha chart.

Jupiter’s transit schedule in Simha Raasi (Leo sign)

Jupiter’s transit generally takes place once in a year and it takes 12 years for Jupiter to complete one revolution around the zodiac. This year Jupiter’s transit is taking place on 14.07.2015 when he enters into Leo sign (Simha Raasi) in the zodiac in the constellation of Makha Nakshathra. Jupiter’s transit schedule is as follows…

Ø  Entry into Simha Raasi (Leo sign) –
Ø  Makha Star
14.07.2015
Ø  Entry into Poorva-Phalguni Star
14.09.2015
Ø  Entry into Uttara-Phalguni Star
28.11.2015
Ø  Leaves Simha Raasi(Leo) &
Ø  enters Virgo (Kanya)
11.08.2016
Ø  Combustion of Jupiter
    (Guru Moudyami/Guru-Astha)
12.08.2015 to 08.09.2015
Ø  Retrogression (Vakra)of Jupiter
08.01.2016 to
10.05.2016

During its sojourn in Leo sign, Jupiter will be transiting the constellations of Makha, Pubba (Poorva Phalguni) and Uttara Phalguni before entering into Virgo (Kanya Raasi) sign. During this period of Jupiter’s transit in Simha Raasi, Saturn will continue in Scorpio (Vrischika raasi) sign; Rahu/Kethu will continue (till January 2016) in Virgo (Kanya) and Pisces (Meena) signs respectively.

As per the astrological conventions Jupiter’s aspect falls on the 5th, 7th, and 9th houses from his position in the chart. Accordingly during the transit in Leo sign, Jupiter’s aspect will fall on Sagittarius, Aquarius and Aries signs. At the same time Jupiter will be getting aspected by malefic Saturn from Scorpio sign and will be conjoined with malefic Rahu and gets aspected by Kethu after its transit into Leo sign in January 2016.

For the purpose of analyzing planetary transits a birth chart is reckoned from Moon sign that is known as Janma Raasi, the house where Moon is placed at the time of birth. Let us try to find out in the coming paragraphs astrological implications of Jupiter’s transit in Leo sign (Simha raasi) from an individual perspective…

Based on general astrological conventions Jupiter yields favourable results while transiting the 2, 5, 7, 9, 11 houses and unfavourable results to rest of the houses ie. 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 reckoned from Moon sign. Accordingly Jupiter’s transit in Leo sign is expected to give good results for those whose Moon sign (Janma raasi) is Aries (Mesha); Cancer (Karkataka); Libra (Thula); Sagittarius (Dhanus) and Aquarius (Kumbha).

General results enumerated during Jupiter’s transit are

When favourable!

Monetary gains; good luck; happiness; blessed with progeny; marriage (ringing of wedding bells); dwija praapthi (upanayana sanskaara); good health; success in endeavours; career progression etc.

When unfavourable!

Aberrations and obstacles; ill-health; loss of money; expenses; frequent travel; grief and misery; depression; confusion; dissatisfaction; separation; loss of wealth; unexpected troubles; mental worries and anxieties etc.

Thara-phala (Nakshathrawise results)…

Based on stellar occupational method known as Thara-phala or strength of the star in which Jupiter is transiting reckoned from the birth star; results would be as follows…

Moorthi Nirnaya (Based on Moon’s position)…

At the time of Jupiter’s transit into Leo Sign (Simha Raasi) on 14.07.2015; Moon will be in Gemini (Mithuna) sign. Based on the sign Moon stands at the time of Jupiter’s transit reckoned from one’s radical (natal) Moon sign (Janma raasi), Moorthi Nirnaya for zodiac signs would be as follows…

Benefic planets like Jupiter produce excellent results as Swarna Moorthi whereas adverse results as Loha Moorthi.  Considered from the rule book conventionally 2, 5, 7, 9 and 11 are auspicious houses but, based on Moorthi Nirnaya method divergent results appear for some of the signs.

Vedha – Vipareetha Vedha…

Concept of Vedha (affliction) a point of obstruction is used in astrological studies especially in case of planetary transits. When a planet produces good results from certain positions from the natal Moon; if at the same time, some other planet occupies/transits certain other positions from the natal Moon the good results gets nullified (temporarily suspended) during the period of the transiting planet causing obstruction. This is known as Vedha.

Similarly in converse proportion when a planet gives bad results from certain positions from the natal Moon, if at the same time some other planet occupies/transits certain other positions from the natal Moon the bad results get reduced (temporarily suspended) during the period of transiting planet causing obstruction. This is called Vipareetha Vedha.

For example when Jupiter is transiting 2nd house for those whose Moon sign is Cancer (Karkataka); benefic effects gets temporarily suspended when a planet is in 12th house from Moon sign; in this case Gemini (Mithuna).

Vipareetha Vedha table for Jupiter’s transit

For instance when Jupiter is transiting 8th house from Moon sign, the evil effects gets nullified by the presence/transit of a planet in 7th house from Moon sign. For Capricorn (Makara raasi) sign, Jupiter in 8th house is not good. If some other planet comes to/transits 7th house from Moon sign then the evil results would get temporarily suspended.

Ashtaka Varga concept (digital strength)…

Based on the concept of Ashtakavarga also Jupiter’s strength is assessed. When Jupiter transits in a sign with more than 4 points (Bindus) in his own Ashtakavarga Table and with more than 30 points in Sarva-Ashtakavarga table, gives favourable results even if it is transiting an evil house. Similarly when Jupiter is transiting a favourable house but at the same time, number of points (Bindus) obtained in Ashtakavarga and Sarva-Ashtakavarga tables are less than 4 & 30 respectively it will produce un-favourable results.

Transit results enumerated above are only indicative; they should not be applied as it is verbatim. They may get modified based on the overall planetary position; strength in the natal chart, placement (strength) of Jupiter in the birth chart both in Raasi and Navaamsa; planetary aspects on Jupiter and the transit sign; running Dasa and Bhukti (sub-period); transit position of other planets like Saturn, Rahu, Kethu etc.

One should not draw inferences purely based on transit results on its face value as it may get restricted or altered by Vedha position of other planetary transits and related Ashtakavarga positioning in natal chart. Therefore for a comprehensive estimate of transit results a combined assessment of conventional results with other techniques in vogue has to be made.

Natal positioning of planets represent the intrinsic capability of an individual whereas, the transit positioning shows the influences which are short lived.  Though transit results are considered as secondary to the prevailing natal results, yet sometimes they could even modify and change the course of the natal results. Gochaara or planetary transit is not only supplementary to the natal birth chart but also acts as complimentary to it.

Jupiter’s transit Vs Pushkara…

Transit of Jupiter (Bruhaspathi) that generally occurs once in twelve months has also acquired special significance as it is associated with celebration of sacred river based Pushkara festival. It has become a custom and tradition since time immemorial to celebrate Pushkara festival of a particular river corresponding to the transit of Jupiter in a particular sign in the zodiac. For example when Jupiter enters into Mesha Raasi which is the first sign in the zodiac it is celebration of Ganga Pushkara. Incidentally Jupiter’s transit into Leo (Simha raasi) sign marks the beginning of Godavari Pushkara. 1. With regards to Jupiter transit and Jupiter's transit is only auspicious if it transits houses 2,5,7,9 and 11, what about the effects of Jupiter's aspects even though it transits an inauspicious house? For example, for Leo moon sign, Jupiter is transiting the janma rasi, which is considered inauspicious, but Jupiter's aspect is on the 5th house from the moon sign? Would this mean there might be some auspicious event although with an adverse transit?

Also, do you consider effects of planetary transits from natal ascendant/lagna?
