Transit of Rahu-Kethu into Virgo & Pisces - Effect on Individuals (an outlook)

Transit is a universal phenomenon applicable even to celestial bodies like stars and planets in this insurmountable, eternal and ever revolving wheel of Time called Kaalachakra. Though Rahu and Kethu are nodes denoting two points of intersection of the paths of Sun and Moon; in Hindu astrology they are very much referred to as Grahas who constantly move around the zodiac at regular intervals. They change their signs once in 18 months and it takes 18 years for them to complete one round of revolution across the zodiac. Rahu-Kethu always move in anti-clockwise direction (apasavya) maintaining a distance of 180 degrees from each other.

Astrological implications of current transit of Rahu-Kethu…

Effective from 13.07.2014 Rahu; Kethu; the mysterious nodes are changing their signs in the zodiac. While Rahu is moving from Libra (Thula) to Virgo (Kanya); simultaneously Kethu will be moving from Aries (Mesha) to Pisces (Meena). They will be transiting in the signs of Virgo and Pisces respectively for a period of 18 months approx. up to 09.01.2016. There could be a slight variation in the dates due to different almanacs that are being followed.

Rahu during its sojourn in Virgo (Kanya) will be transiting across the constellations of Chitta (1); Hastha and Uttara Phalguni (2,3,4); and Kethu during its sojourn in Pisces (Meena) would be transiting across the constellations of Revathi; Uttarabhadra and Poorvabhadra (4).

During Rahu-Kethu sojourn in Virgo and Pisces respectively other major astrological transits would be that of Jupiter currently in Cancer sign moving into Leo in July 2015; Saturn currently in Libra transiting into Scorpio in November 2014. One also has to be watchful of the transit of Mars and its aspect on Rahu – Kethu during their sojourn in Virgo and Pisces. These are the signs (Virgo/Pisces) where eclipses are going to occur during the coming 18 months.

Rahu and Kethu are slow moving planets in the order of Saturn, Rahu-Kethu and Jupiter. They are shadow planets (Chaaya Grahas). They don’t own any sign in the zodiac, however they acquire power from the house they occupy and gives results (virtues and vices) of the lord of that sign and or of the conjoined planets. In Vedic astrology it is said that Rahu is akin to Saturn (Shani) based on the dictum Shanivad Rahu and Kethu is similar to Mars – Kujavad Kethu. They are said to give the results akin to Saturn (Rahu) and Mars (Kethu) respectively. Their aspects would fall on 5th, 7th, 9th, and 12th houses from the sign they occupy. Their transit results would be most influencing and impactful both on individuals and on mundane surface that will be for a longer duration compared to the fast moving planets.

Generally both natural benefic as well as malefic planets produce favourable results while transiting through their respective favourable signs. While transiting evil houses natural benefic planets produce almost neutral results whereas natural malefic planets give adverse results. Transit implications especially that of slow moving planets have to be assessed based on the techniques of Vedha; Moorthi-Nirnaya; Tharabala etc. For the purpose of analyzing planetary transits (Gochara) a birth chart is reckoned from Moon sign that is known as Janma Raasi, the house where Moon is placed at the time of birth.

Accordingly general implications of the current transit of Rahu and Kethu in Virgo & Pisces signs for individuals would be, based on…

Based on general astrological conventions Rahu-Kethu are supposed to produce good results and material fortune when they occupy Upa-chaya (3, 6, 10 & 11th houses); while 11th house is said to be their best positioning.  All other houses (1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th 9th, 12th) they give negative results unless otherwise supported by strengths in the birth chart. Generally the zodiac signs (Raasis) get a balancing leverage because one occupies a favourable position while the other occupies an unfavourable position and vice-versa.  Sometimes the adverse effects of one may also get neutralized by the beneficial results of the other.

Moorthi-Nirnaya…

Based on the positioning of Moon at the time of Rahu-Kethu transit on 13.07.2014; they acquire the following forms. On this day at the time of Rahu-Kethu transit, Moon will be in Capricorn (Makara) sign. Based on one’s radical (natal) Moon sign in relation to the sign in which Moon stands at the time of transit Moorthi Nirnaya for zodiac signs would be as follows…

Leo, Capricorn, Pisces
Swarna Moorthi
Taurus, Virgo, Sagittarius
Rajatha Moorthi
Aries, Cancer, Scorpio
Thamra Moorthi
Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Loha Moorthi
As per Moorthi Nirnaya method, malefic planets produce adverse results as Swarna Moorthi and Loha Moorthi, average to good results as Thamra Moorthi and favourable results as Rajatha Moorthi.
Thara-Phala…

Based on stellar occupational method known as Thara-phala or strength of the star in which the planet is transiting reckoned from birth star the results would be as follows…

Janma Thara (1) and Nydhana (Vadha) thara (7) gives very bad results; Pratyak Thara (5) and Vipat Thara (3) thara gives bad results; Sampat Thara (2); Kshema Thara (4); Saadhana Thara (6) and Mithra Thara (8) gives good results; Parama-mithra Thara (9) gives very good/excellent results.

Transit results enumerated above for various zodiac signs (Raasis) are only indicative; they should not be applied as it is verbatim. They may get modified based on the overall planetary position; strength in the natal chart, placement (strength) of Rahu-Kethu in the birth chart both in Raasi and Navaamsa; planetary aspects on them and the transit sign; running Dasa and Bhukti (sub-period); transit position of other planets like Saturn, Jupiter etc.

One should not draw inferences purely based on transit results on its face value as it may get restricted or altered by Vedha position of other planetary transits. Therefore for a comprehensive estimate of the transit results, a combined assessment of conventional results along with other techniques in vogue has to be made.
