One such temple which is of rare significance is located at Ghati in Karnataka state about 60 km from Bangalore. According to Sthala Purana Ghati is the place where Lord Subrahmanya performed penance in the guise of a serpent inside the caves in the mountain ranges of this area before going to kill the demon Tharakasura. Ghati is also believed to be the place where Lord Subrahmanya invoked protection from Lord Lakshmi Narasimha for the serpentine clan from Garuda’s scare. The temple at Ghati is uniquely dedicated to both deities Lord Subrahmanya and Lord Lakshmi Narasimha in a rare combination. Rarity of this temple is that both Deities are carved on a single self manifested (swayambhu) idol with Lord Subrahmanya in a seven hooded serpentine form (cobra) facing east and Lord Lakshmi Narasimha facing west. One can view Lord Lakshmi Narasimha through strategically placed mirror inside the sanctum sanctorum. Ghata is a Sanskrit word meaning a pot. A serpent’s hood resembles that of a pot and Ghati is the place where Lord Subrahmanya lived in the form of Ghata Sarpa. In Hindi Ghat means mountain range and this temple of Lord Subrahmanya is located in the mountain ranges. Ghati is believed to be the place where Lord Subrahmanya killed a demon called Ghatikaasura. According to temple records the temple at Ghati Subrahmanya Kshethra has a history of more than 600 years and it was first built by Ghorpade erstwhile rulers of Sandur dynasty. This rare and self manifested idol was unearthed by the King with the help of local citizens as per the directions (dream) given by Lord Subrahmanya himself. Ghati has become one of the major pilgrim centers of Karnataka state and due to the serpentine form of Lord Subrahmanya the place is also revered as a Naga Kshethra.

Thousands of devotees approach this temple for worshiping Lord Subrahmanya as a remedy for various negative results from.... Kuja (Mars) especially Kuja (Angaraka) Dosha, marital related problems and prosperity, as a remedy for malefic effects from Rahu, Sarpa/Naga Dosha, for attaining progeny; as a remedy for health problems especially chronic skin diseases like leprosy, leukoderma, relief from enemies (both internal & external), relief from debts apart from overall prosperity and general wellbeing.

Ghati Subrahmanya Kshethra can be reached by road via Doddaballapura about 45 km from Bangalore and from there Ghati is about 15 km distance. Nearest railway station is Makalidurga about 5 km from Ghati on the Bangalore-Guntakal line. Nearest airport Bangalore International Airport at Devanahalli is about 30 km from Ghati.

.The temple is open on all the week days from morning 06.30 am to night 09.00 pm. Temple car festival is held every year on the 6th lunar day (Sukla Shashti) during Pushya maasam apart from, special celebrations held on other important occasions as per the calendar for worship of Lord Subrahmanya and Lord Lakshmi Narasimha.

ಘಾಟಿ - ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ (ಭಗವಾನ್ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯನ ಅಪರೂಪದ ದೇವಾಲಯ) ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ ಸುಮಾರು 60 ಕಿ.ಮೀ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಘಾಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಮಹತ್ವದ ದೇವಾಲಯವಿದೆ. ಸ್ಥಳ ಪುರಾಣದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಘಾಟಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯರು ತಾರಕಾಸುರನನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲಲು ಹೋಗುವ ಮುನ್ನ ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಪರ್ವತ ಶ್ರೇಣಿಗಳ ಗುಹೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಪದ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ತಪಸ್ಸು ಮಾಡಿದ ಸ್ಥಳ. ಘಾಟಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯರು ಗರುಡನ ಭಯದಿಂದ ಸರ್ಪ ಕುಲಕ್ಕೆ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ನರಸಿಂಹರನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿದ ಸ್ಥಳವೂ ಹೌದು. ಘಾಟಿಯ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಭಗವಾನ್ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಭಗವಾನ್ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ನರಸಿಂಹರ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಸಂಯೋಜನೆಗೆ ಸಮರ್ಪಿತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ವಿಶೇಷತೆ ಎಂದರೆ ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ದೇವರುಗಳು ಏಕೈಕ ಸ್ವಯಂಭೂ ವಿಗ್ರಹದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆತ್ತಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು, ಭಗವಾನ್ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯರು ಏಳು ಹೆಡ್‌ಗಳ ಸರ್ಪ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಖಮಾಡಿ ಮತ್ತು ಭಗವಾನ್ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ನರಸಿಂಹರು ಪಶ್ಚಿಮಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಖಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಗರ್ಭಗುಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಿಸಲಾದ ಕನ್ನಡಿಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ನರಸಿಂಹರನ್ನು ನೋಡಬಹುದು. ಘಟ ಎಂದರೆ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾತ್ರೆ. ಸರ್ಪದ ಹೆಡ್ ಪಾತ್ರೆಯಂತೆ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಘಾಟಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯರು ಘಟ ಸರ್ಪ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸಿದ ಸ್ಥಳ. ಹಿಂದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಘಾಟ್ ಎಂದರೆ ಪರ್ವತ ಶ್ರೇಣಿ ಮತ್ತು ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಪರ್ವತ ಶ್ರೇಣಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಘಾಟಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯರು ಘಟಿಕಾಸುರ ಎಂಬ ರಾಕ್ಷಸನನ್ನು ಕೊಂದ ಸ್ಥಳವೆಂದು ನಂಬಲಾಗಿದೆ. ದೇವಾಲಯದ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಘಾಟಿ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ದೇವಾಲಯವು 600 ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಇತಿಹಾಸವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇದನ್ನು ಸ್ಯಾಂಡೂರು ರಾಜವಂಶದ ಘೋರಪಡೆ ರಾಜರು ಮೊದಲು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದರು. ಈ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಸ್ವಯಂಭೂ ವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ರಾಜನು ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ನಾಗರಿಕರ ಸಹಾಯದಿಂದ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯರ ಸ್ವಪ್ನದ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನದಂತೆ ಬಯಲುಮಾಡಿದನು. ಘಾಟಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಯಾತ್ರಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಭಗವಾನ್ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯರ ಸರ್ಪ ರೂಪದ ಕಾರಣ ಇದನ್ನು ನಾಗ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವೆಂದು ಪೂಜಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಷಡಾನನಂ ಕುಂಕುಮ ರಕ್ತ ವರ್ಣಂ ಮಹಾಮತಿಂ ದಿವ್ಯ ಮಯೂರ ವಾಹನಂ ರುದ್ರಸ್ಯ ಸೂನುಂ ಸುರಸೈನ್ಯ ನಾಥಂ ಗುಹಂ ಸದಾಹಂ ಶರಣಂ ಪ್ರಪದ್ಯೇ ಹರಿ ಸರ್ವೋತ್ತಮ - ವಾಯು ಜೀವೋತ್ತಮ ಶ್ರೀ ಗುರುರಾಜೋ ವಿಜಯತೇ
