Yugasya Aadi Yugaadi - Samvatsaraadi...
Chaandramaana Ugaadi
31.03.2014
Sri Jayanaama Samvatsaraadi
Yugasya
Aadi Yugaadi (Yuga + Aadi). Yuga means the period or era and Aadi means the
beginning. Yugaadi means the day Yuga had commenced. It marks the beginning of
an Era/Yuga that specifically refers to the period in which we are currently
living. Ugaadi also refers to the
current year which is known as Samvatsaraadi, beginning of a Hindu new year. In
this never ending and ever changing Time cycle today we are entering into a new
cyclical year Sri Jaya Naama Samvatsara that is referred to as Chaandramaana
Ugaadi or Yugaadi. JAYA is the 28th
one in the 60 year cycle of Hindu calendar.
Concept and Significance of Samvatsara - The Time element
As
per the concept of Hindu Time (Kaalamaana) currently we are in the Swetha Varaaha
Kalpa, Vaivaswatha Manvanthara, first leg of 28th Kali Yuga, in
Saalivaahana Sakha. As per Yuga
Pramaana, life span of Kali Yuga is 432,000 years, out of which 5115 years have
past and we are entering into 5116th year of this 28th
Kaliyuga. As per the Sakha pramaana that is being followed in South India, life
span of Saalivaahana Sakha is 18000 years out of which 1936 years have past and
we are entering into 1937th year of the current era.
KALPA - The Hindu Time Element (Kaala Ganana)
Lord
Vishnu is the Kaalapurusha the presiding Deity of the eternal time Kaalachakra.
He is the creator, controller and regulator of the great Time and also the one
who causes the repetition of time elements like Yugas. All entities in this
universe come under the purview of this Time including Lord Brahma. There is no
exception. Only exception is Lord SriManNaaraayana who is Kaalaatheetha, the
one who is beyond Time and for whom there is no time-bar. It
is befitting on this auspicious day to worship and pray the ParaBrahma, the
creator of this Universe, the presiding Deity of eternal Kaala (TIME), the all
pervading Supreme Lord Sri Maha Vishnu.

to the Infinite the one who has manifested as innumerable number of forms, who has
innumerable feet, eyes, heads, arms, one who has innumerable number of names,
who is an eternal person and who holds thousands of crores of Yugas which are
uncountable.
