Geeta Saar - The Philosophy of Bhagawad Geeta
कर्मणयेवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन।
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि।
(Thy right is to work only, but never to its fruits, let not the fruit of action be thy motive, nor let thy attachment be to inaction...)
Geeta Saar – The philosophy of
Bhagawadgita
Bhagawadgita is a hand book of instructions on the art of
living. It is called Jeevana Dharma Yoga Saasthra. Geeta Saastra is
intended to remove the cause of Samsara such as grief and delusion. It is the
right understanding of the immortal culture of Vedas and
Upanishads. It contains the essence of Hindu Philosophy and
culture. It is not merely a text book of Hinduism; but a bible of
humanity. It is a practical handbook of instructions to the man on how to live
nobly and grow out of his instinctive weaknesses. It says that running away
from life is not the way to reach the highest goal of evolution. Mere
spirituality without material exertion and secular achievement will not make
life dynamic. The creed of Geeta is that spirituality can be lived in life, and
true spiritual understanding is an asset to a man engaged in the battle of
life.
Man alone is given the freedom to act as he likes and to the
extent he disobeys the universal law of sacrifice; to that extent he come to
suffer; because, he with his arrogant and egoistic actions brings discard in
the harmony of the existence around him. Among living creatures; man alone has
been allowed the freedom of action to contribute to the harmony or to bring
about discard in the smooth running of the cosmic mechanism.
Bhagawadgita asks us to be active at all times not only
physically but also intellectually. It advises to act vigorously with a right
attitude of mind, so that one may avoid all internal waste of energy and
learn to grow in himself. It gives an easy thumb rule as to what types of
values and mental attitudes one should develop in order to realize the ever
effulgent Divinity in them; the pure awareness.
Bhagawadgita is a handbook of instructions; a manual of
practical living, as to how every human being can come to live the subtle
philosophical principles of Vedanta in the actual work a day world. It is a call to each one of us to get up and
fight the battle of our own life according to our own Vaasanaas (Swadharma) so
that we may exhaust them and thus gain inner purity. It is a religious
call to everyone to discard his defeatist mentality and face wholeheartedly and
sincerely the situations in the every green field of his life at every given
moment of his existence.
Geetha is a divine call to Man to discard his melancholy
dejections in the face of life’s challenges and to come forward to play as best
as he can ‘the game of life’ with a firm determination to strive and to win. Bhagawadgita
says that if success you seek; then never strive with a mind dissipasted with
anxieties and fears for the fruits. Wrong imaginations, false expectations, day
dreams about the fruits of actions, anxieties for the results and fears for
future calamities that have not yet appeared to threaten our lives are the
attachments to be renounced. To worry
for the results is to worry for the future and to live in future is not to live
in the present. Life by its very nature is a mixture of both good and bad and
to live ever adjusting ourselves avoiding bad and striving to linger in the
experience of good is to live unintelligently.
In the words of Mahatma Gandhi "my life has been full of external tragedies and, if they have
not left any visible and indelible effect on me; I owe it to the teachings of
Bhagawad Geeta"
Message of Geeta is that actions are not to be avoided and the
world of objects is not to be denied. Philosophy of Bhagawadgita preaches a
constructive reorganization of life and the destruction or rejection of life’s
possibilities. Bhagawadgita and Vishnu Sahasranama Stothram are the two great
gems of Hindu spirituality carved out from the great epic Mahabharata. It is a
song of truth sung by the immortal (Lord Sri Krishna) to the mortal (Arjuna).
Active resistance to evil is the Krishna Creed in Bhagawadgita.
सर्वधर्मान्परित्यज्य मामेकं शरणं व्रज ।
अहं त्वा सर्वपापेभ्यो मोक्षयिष्यामि मा शुचः
(Abandoning all Dharmas (body, mind and intellect) take refuge in Me alone; I will liberate thee from all sins; grieve not ...)
Bhagawad Geeta Saar
(The Essence of Life)
Whatever happened; happened for the good;
Whatever is happening; is happening for the good;
Whatever will happen; will also be for the good;
What did you lose that you cry about?
What did you bring with you that you have lost?
What did you create which is now destroyed?
Whatever you have taken; you have taken from here;
Whatever was given; was given only from here;
Whatever is your's today was someone else’s yesterday;
It will be someone else’s tomorrow;
Whatever was given; was given only from here;
Whatever is your's today was someone else’s yesterday;
It will be someone else’s tomorrow;
Change is the law of the Universe
