PRADOSHA (a brief note)
Pradosha or Pradosham is a term that we frequently
come across in Hindu calendar (Panchangam). Originated from the concept of
Time; Pradosha is a micro constituent of Kaalachakra (TIME) that occurs every
day 1½ hrs before Sunset (twilight time) that is reckoned as Pradosha called as
Dina Pradosham.
If it is associated with Trayodasi (13th lunar
day of both Sukla & Krishna Paksha) it is called Maha Pradosham. Sometimes
it may occur on Dwaadasi day itself when Trayodasi
thithi is present (prevailing) around Pradosha.
If it is associated with Monday it is called Soma
Pradosha, if it is associated with Tuesday it is called Bhouma Pradosha and if
it is associated with Saturday it is called Shani Pradosha.
Pradosha is a Sanskrit word (Pra + Dosha). Pra means
conspicuous; prominent; notorious; great; noticeable; unique and Dosha means
evil. Pradosha means great evil. As per electional astrology Pradosha time is
not an auspicious time.
Generally Pradosha time is associated with worship
of Lord Shiva but it will be more meritorious to worship Lord Shiva along with
Lord Sri Lakshmi Narasimha. It is believed and said that Narasimha Avathara
took place (manifested) and Lord Narasimha killed Hiranyakasipa (evil) during Pradosha time.
