A Great Teacher of the Nation: Paramapujya Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji
The Visionary of Ayodhya
The moment we think of Pujya Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejawara Matha, the image that reflects in our minds is the grand Ayodhya Rama Mandir. As a pillar of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and an active participant in the Rama Janmabhoomi movement, he was a Mahatma who fought to realize the dream of the temple we see today. It is no exaggeration to say that because of his compassion and tireless efforts, his disciple and the current pontiff, Sri Vishwaprasanna Teertha Swamiji, was blessed with the grand fortune of performing the Prana Pratishtha (consecration) of Bala Rama in January 2024.
The Embodiment of Devotion and Energy
He was always seen walking briskly with a gentle smile. With eyes radiating wisdom from a brilliant treasury of knowledge, he would look upon his devotees with compassion. His life was a sacred vow (Deeksha) consisting of rigorous spiritual practice, meditation, chanting, contemplation, study, and teaching. Alongside these, he was dedicated to tireless public service and the protection of Bharatiya Sanatana Dharma. He was the very embodiment of eternal energy; the fact that he conducted the "Paryaya" five times to worship Lord Krishna is a testament to his extraordinary devotion and strength.
A Resolve for Social Equality
A pivotal moment in his youth shaped his social mission. While drowning in a river as a boy, his friends did not save him because they felt they belonged to a "lower caste" and were not supposed to touch him. This incident instilled in young Venkataramana a powerful resolve: when he became the head of the Matha, he would wipe out such inequality. History records that as part of this effort, he personally visited Dalit neighborhoods (Dalit Keri tours) to bridge divides, seeing the Divine in every living being.
Architect of Knowledge: Poornaprajna Vidyapeetha
Swamiji realized that our identity can only be preserved through proper education. In 1956, at the young age of 25, he founded Poornaprajna Vidyapeetha in Bengaluru. He believed that the decline of our traditions was due to the destruction of the Gurukula system and the neglect inherent in Western educational models. Today, this institution serves as a sanctuary where hundreds of students receive free education in Vedanta and Sanskrit. His love for teaching was so profound that he chose the Vidyapeetha as the site for his Brindavanam (Samadhi), desiring to rest forever amidst the divine atmosphere of Vedic chants and daily lessons.
A Guru to Leaders and Scholars
He stood as a guiding light to many prominent political leaders, directing them toward the right path. Despite his immense influence and scholarly disciples, he remained completely untouched by pride. He treated everyone with love and listened to their grievances with maternal affection. By organizing numerous 'Sudha Mangalas', he nurtured a new generation of scholars to ensure that the "water" of spiritual knowledge continues to nourish the youth.
The Trivikrama of Our Time
Just as the Lord appeared as the small Vamana but manifested as the mighty Trivikrama, Swamiji, despite his small physical stature, accomplished monumental tasks for social transformation. He authored 'Gita Saroddhara', making the profound teachings of the Bhagavad Gita accessible to the common man.
A Call to Action on his Aradhana
On this day of his Aradhana, let us remember this great Acharya and resolve to walk the path he illuminated. Let us abandon negative thoughts and, with love and harmony, unite to protect our nation. Reflecting upon his spiritual journey, let us move forward in the footsteps he laid for us.
